Perfectly Red Front Doors

Nothing wakes up a homes curb appeal more than a perfect shade of red on the front door. Not everyone gets it right. And I would rather see any other shade on the front of a house than a red that is lackluster -of which there are plenty – or when the red clashes with the rest of the home – which is actually difficult to do.

These red doors, we feel, are perfect in every way. If you’re going to go red- go bold – and we’re happy these homeowners did not hold back.

This first red door would be cheerful on its own- but the cobalt blue pots with red geraniums really make it pop! The vertical elongated windows on the door add a ton of personality — oh how we wish doors were still made with such beautiful detail – without the hefty custom price tag.

If you have a white home, you would think any color could look perfect on the all-important front door, but we see too many mishaps with colors that clash hard with the white, don’t compliment the home or just get lost on themselves. Red doors on white homes, especially with black shutters, ooze Americana. Red is the perfect contrast to a white colonial home and we see this in the following photo. The red is complemented well by the surrounding foliage and the topiaries work to soften the edges of the transition from bright red to bright white.

This next door is one of our all time favorites and one that is all about detail. There is so much in play to the aesthetics of this home. A minimalist might find it to be too much going on – but in our opinion – the business of the design is balanced well with color, use of materials and the mixed use of texture with facade finishes and foliage. The splash of aqua copper as well as the lean toward chinoiserie with the lattice on the screen door are the jewelry that help make this design shine.

This classic colonial is perfect with its cherry red door -accented with not bright white – but a light ecru white which gives it an elegance bright white would not have accomplished. Bright flowers and symmetrical urn pots further its charm. We also love the decorative millwork at the top of the portico and the roof overhang – they add interest and elevate the overall facade. This entrance is strong yet pretty, elegant yet playful.

Although we love the lattice detailing of this screen door, the round brass knocker and the shade of red chosen, we feel the pea gravel walkway steels the show. It’s unique, it’s homey and it adds a warm cottage appeal. The green hydrangeas and curved portico further the charm of this beautiful entryway.

Our last home, again, showcases a perfect shade of red. It’s red with black undertones and accented with new brass accents and a whimsical wreath. The decorative pediment above the door and the vertical pilasters make this door a showstopper. And as much as we love to pair white homes with red doors and black shutters – if homeowners are a bit more daring – blue shutters add personality and Americana like few other details can.

We hope you love the inspiration these beautiful red doors give ….Let us know what you think.
